This wall-mounted brass door bell features a detailed carving inspired by Punakawan, a well-known Javanese shadow puppet folklore. Made with solid brass, it produces a clear, pleasant chime while serving as a distinctive decorative accent for home entrance doors, shops, or interior walls.

Condition: New

Size: Height 4.25" x Width 6.5″ (10.8 x 16.5 cm)

The carving depicts the four main Punakawan characters (first image from left to right):

  • Semar is the elderly father figure and guardian spirit of the Java islands, appearing in human form to live among mortals.
  • Gareng, the eldest son, is depicted with a limp and a crippled arm, symbolizing restraint, humility, and careful action.
  • Petruk, the middle child, is tall with a long nose and is known for possessing magical abilities that he uses only when necessary.
  • Bagong, the youngest, is shown with a stout figure, round eyes, and a naive demeanor, representing honesty and straightforwardness.

Combining function with cultural storytelling, this brass bell offers a distinctive cultural influence to both traditional and contemporary spaces.
