About Batik – The Art Behind the Board
Batik is a UNESCO-recognized traditional art form using wax-resist dyeing technique. Batik tulis involves hand-drawing wax patterns onto fabric (or in our case, directly onto wood). The word batik comes from the Javanese amba ("to write") and titik ("dots"), reflecting its extraordinary attention to detail. Every mancala board in this collection honors that craft.
How to play mancala (quick rules)
- Set up — Place the board between two players. Each player controls five pits and a Store (large pit on their right). Fill all small pits with seeds.
- Play — On your turn, pick up all seeds from one of your pits and drop them one by one counterclockwise, including your Store but skipping your opponent's Store.
- Win — The game ends when one player's pits are empty. The player with the most seeds in their Store wins!
