Located just east of Bali, Lombok is the hidden gem of Indonesia. It offers a breathtaking blend of unspoiled natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and serene island charm. 

Encompassed by bodies of water (the Lombok Strait to the west and Alas Strait to the East), the islanders are skilled in shell inlay art/cukli. This craft technique utilizes fragments of carefully-cut seashells assembled onto a wood surface. The process is meticulous, requiring patience, precision, and a deep understanding of the natural materials.

The most distinctive feature of cukli is the triangular patterns which symbolizes stability and strength. In the Lombok culture, the triangle highlights the importance of balancing the three elements of life: human, nature and God, in order to achieve a harmonious living condition. Lombok’s cukli artistry is a testament to the island’s deep connection with nature, creativity, and tradition.

Circa 1970s. Comes with a small wooden box to store mancala seeds. In addition to shell fragments, there are small coins inlaid on both the mancala and the box.
