Mancala is one of the world's oldest strategy board games, played by sowing and capturing seeds across pits to outnumber your opponent. This wooden game is carved in a form of a serpentine-like dragon, entirely hand-painted, and crowned with an irahan, the ornate ceremonial headdress worn by characters in the traditional Wayang Wong performance art.
The word irahan derives from sirah, meaning "head". Rendered in striking white, green, and red, every color carries centuries of Javanese symbolic tradition:
- White and green represent wisdom, inner peace, and noble character.
- Red embodies courage, strength, and the spirit of leadership.
Together, these three colors tell the story of a dragon that is both warrior and wise ruler.
This piece bridges two powerful visual traditions: the primal, universal archetype of the dragon with the refined ceremonial aesthetics of Javanese court performance. The Wayang Wong is a UNESCO-recognized cultural heritage, known for its elaborate costuming, layered symbolism, and spiritual depth.
Ideal For:
Mancala players and board game collectors, lovers of Asian art and mythology, fans of dragon sculpture and fantasy art, home décor curators, interior designer or gift buyers seeking statement pieces with meaning.
